Meet Our Residents: Jim George

Securing Your Future at Porters Neck Village

If you attend an event at Porters Neck Village, it’s quite likely that Mr. Jim George will be among the first people you meet. Jim is a member of the Marketing “First Team” and loves to serve as a greeter to welcome people into our community for events both large and small.

He spent his career in law enforcement – including four years with the uniformed division of the Secret Service during the Nixon administration – and nearly thirty years working for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Jim realized that he needed to make a plan for his future after undergoing open heart surgery in 2011.

He didn’t want to live alone any longer.

Jim researched communities in Wilmington and moved into Porters Neck Village in April 2015.

He liked our campus property, non-profit status, sense of security and meal plan.

“I like to eat, I’ll be honest!” he told me.

He tells me now that he wishes he’d moved in two years earlier, but mostly he has “no complaints!” and is grateful to live at PV.

He believes our community sets residents up for success in being able to care for themselves for as long as possible.

Jim rides his exercise bike daily, makes use of our fitness classes, transportation services and our community events, activities and outings.

He also remains active as a greeter at Coastal Community Baptist Church and serves on the PV Resident Finance Committee.

When he recently needed surgery for cataract correction, he utilized our valet service to drive him home.

Mr. George is one of the most positive members of our community.

He’s the first to tell you he “loves it here!” with a big smile. He knows staff, associates and fellow residents by name and is the first to give someone a compliment or encouraging word.

We believe it’s the people who define a place. At PV, Mr. Jim George is one of those people whose attitude, willingness to participate and encouraging spirit make it a wonderful community to live and to work.
