Frequently Asked Questions

What are the restrictions of living here?

We don’t deal in restrictions. This is the place for more freedom and more flexibility. Every day is yours to enjoy the way you see fit, as it should be.

What happens if my money runs out?

Perhaps the most comforting benefit is our Hardship Policy. This program ensures that you’ll have a home for life at Porters Neck Village, even if you outlive your resources.

Are there any entry restrictions?

Yes, residents must meet some guidelines to qualify. Call 910-686-7181 to make an appointment and learn more.

How do I know if independent living is the right choice?

Choosing to leave the place you once called home is a difficult decision at any age. But independent living gives seniors the chance to start enjoying life today. You’ll have luxury amenities at your fingertips—from 5-star restaurants to a state-of-the-art fitness center. You’ll also enjoy maintenance-free living. That means more daily housekeeping or constant repairs. Spend time doing what you love, or get to know your community. Between free movie nights, group outings and other social events, it will be easier than ever to connect with new people. At Porters Neck Village, your days are truly your own.

What’s the advantage of choosing a Life Plan Community like Porters Neck Village?

Profound peace of mind for you and your family. If your needs ever change, you’ll have priority access to The Davis Community, the area’s premier long-term care provider. This includes assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation services and memory care.

Is Porters Neck Village pet-friendly?

Absolutely. At Porters Neck Village, we love our 4-legged friends. We have dozens of pets who call Porters Neck Village home, and if we need to evacuate for a hurricane – they evacuate with us.

How can I know if assisted living is the right choice?

Whether you’re concerned about yourself or a loved one, it’s best to start with a physician’s assessment. You can then match needs to the right level of assistance. When help with daily tasks is needed — taking medicines, bathing, dressing, meals, transportation and housekeeping — assisted living can be the answer. Rest assured, you’ll find top-quality services at Champions Assisted Living, located at The Davis Community.

What if my care needs are greater than what’s provided in assisted living?

We’re a Life Plan Community. That means, in addition to assisted living, we provide access to memory care and skilled nursing. These services at The Davis Community provide round-the-clock care for someone who needs long-term supervision or support, or for individuals recovering from illness or injury.

What if my loved one needs memory care as well as other assistance?

Memory care services are offered in both our assisted living and skilled nursing neighborhoods. If your loved one’s needs change, we’re equipped to enhance the level of care seamlessly. It’s one of the many benefits of choosing our Life Plan Community.

What’s the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia?

Dementia refers to the loss of cognitive functions (thinking, reasoning, the ability to remember) that are severe enough to interfere with a person’s daily functioning. This group of symptoms is not a disease per se, but may accompany certain diseases or conditions. Dementia is irreversible when caused by disease or certain injuries. It may be partially or fully reversible when caused by drugs, alcohol, depression or imbalances in certain substances, such as hormones or vitamins. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia. It is a progressive, degenerative disease of the brain, characterized by loss of function and death of nerve cells in several brain areas, leading to loss of recent memories and new learning first, and eventually old memories, too.

What is skilled nursing?

It’s specifically for those who need greater care while recovering from a hospital stay, or for those who need longer-term care. Access to compassionate services are provided around the clock by licensed professionals. We also offer custom programs that encourage maximum social interaction and preserve dignity.

When is skilled nursing necessary?

Skilled nursing is the right choice for those who require attentive medical care, but don’t have the acute needs that make hospitalization necessary. It provides a higher level of care than assisted living, whether the need is for more hands-on assistance with routine activities, rehabilitation services or long-term care.

Is there a monthly fee?

Yes. Our monthly fee covers all utilities, services, and amenities. Think of it like combining the costs associated with maintaining a home.
